CJS Custom Builders is a family-run custom home builder founded in Lafayette, Louisiana, with one goal: to build the kind of custom home that people in Acadiana deserve — without the runaround, the hidden costs, or the lack of communication that too many builders deliver.

We operate differently. We limit the number of homes we build each year so that every client gets our full attention.

Our roots in Acadiana mean we understand the land, the climate, and the way families live here. That knowledge shows up in every framing decision, every drainage call, and every detail spec.

We document everything. We answer the phone. And when we hand you the keys, we're proud to put our name on what we built.

AHBA Parade of Homes

One Builder.

Since 2018, CJS Custom Builders has entered the AHBA Parade of Homes every single year — including three homes in a single virtual year during COVID. Most Parade builders operate as production teams. CJS has done it as a solo custom builder, because every home deserves that level of focus.

Our first Parade entry in 2018 was a spec home at 301 Vineyard that sold on the first day of the event.

2021 Home for the Holidays

In 2021, CJS was selected as the volunteer builder for the AHBA Home for the Holidays — donating our time to build a home valued at over $500,000 that was raffled live on KATC.

When something isn't right, we fix it before closing. Our warranty follow-up is proactive. We check in at 6 months and 11 months because we'd rather catch it first.

Everything You Want to Know Before You Build

How long does a custom home take to build?

Most CJS custom homes take 10 to 14 months from contract signing to certificate of occupancy. Larger homes or those with extensive custom features may run longer. We give you a detailed schedule before anything is signed.

Do I need my own architect?

Yes, CJS works from your architect's plans. We don't design homes, we build them. If you don't have an architect yet, we're happy to refer you to firms we've worked with successfully in the Acadiana area.

What is an allowance?

An allowance is a budgeted amount in your contract for a finish category where the final selection hasn't been made yet. If your selection comes in under, you get a credit. If it goes over, a change order is issued for the difference.

Do you build on my lot?

Yes. We build on client-owned lots throughout Acadiana. We'll review your lot early to assess drainage, soil conditions, setbacks, and site prep requirements, all of which affect your final price.

Can I make changes during construction?

Yes, but changes are handled through a formal change order process. We document every change in writing, what it affects, what it costs, and how it impacts the schedule, before any work is done.
